Location & approach

By car

The campus of TU Dortmund University is located near the Dortmund West highway junction, where the A45 Sauerland route crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to Campus South, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 to Campus North. The university is signposted at both exits.

By bus and train

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 20 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr transport association, and DSW21 also offers an interactive route network map.

Suspension Railway (H-Bahn)

The "H-Bahn" is one of the landmarks of TU Dortmund University. One is located directly above the S-Bahn station and is easily accessible from it by elevators. The other is located in the center of Campus North at the bridge between the University Library and the Mensa, right next to the Audimax. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 runs every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this route in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, you can take the AirportExpress to Dortmund Central Station in just over 20 minutes and from there take the S-Bahn to the university. Düsseldorf Airport, around 60 kilometers away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

Wiedersehen mit Heidi / Re-reading Heidi. Polyperspective Readings of the Heidi Novels by Johanna Spyri

Johanna Spyri (1827-1901) enjoyed great success with her novel "Heidi's Years of Learning and Travel" (1880) and its sequel "Heidi Can Use What She Has Learned" (1881). Since then, the Heidi novels have been translated into around 50 languages. They are part of the Western canon of popular children's and young adult literature – like only the works of Astrid Lindgren. Numerous transformations into media formats such as feature films, TV series/anime, comics and audiobooks have followed.

Lecture series and conference

In order to trace this high connectivity and popularity of the novel and its sequel, a digital lecture series was organized in the summer semester of 2021, in which the novels and their media transformations were subjected to an updated and polyperspective reading by international scholars from various disciplines from the perspective of interdisciplinary diversity research.

The lecture series was followed by a two-day digital conference in September 2021. The responses and intensive discussions focused in particular on the methodological diversity and interdisciplinary breadth of the Heidi readings and showed that the approach of diversity research – epistemological, sociological, aesthetic, narratological – cannot be taken into account without reflecting on the interdependent and intersectional aspects.
